Socks, socks, socks!

For my feet!!

Let me present the Math Whiz. For one foot anyways. Just have to sew in the ends. I LOVE this sock! I loved knitting the pattern and have cast on for the 2nd sock this morning.

At every angle [that I can photograph my own foot with] it looks great!

For my ears!

That's right ... ears. Sock jewelery. I sold 2 pair to a friend and here they are. And the 3rd pair are for me [the orange pair of course]. To show you how small they are, here are each pair next to ...
tooth picks.

The knitting needles used to knit these babies are size 0000. Just a little bigger than the tooth picks. Needless to say, I use magnifying glasses while I knit these. Takes me a couple of hours.
And with no mistakes if I'm not watching TV at the same time.

I know what some people are thinking ... I have got to get a LIFE right?

But I'm having so much fun with the one I've got.

Vieva la socks!!

I've signed up for the Mystery Stole 3 !

I think I forgot to tell everybody about this ... but in case you didn't know about it and want to do a Mystery Stole also, there's still time to sign up here

Click to join mysterystole3

I signed up last week some time and got my yarn and beads in the mail yesterday. Pictures to come once I do a swatch. Yup, I'm doing a swatch ... doesn't everybody?

Over 2200 members from all over the World signed up so far.

That's over 2200 people knitting the same thing! Can you imagine?

There'll even be translators. I'm not an experienced lace knitter [not at all as a matter of fact], but I'm going to give this a try. I've been wanting a beautiful lace stole anyway and when I heard that it will also have beads knit in as you go [or not -- your choice], I was sold. And what fun it'll be that no one will know what it'll look like until we're done. Talk about knitting blindly, huh?

So what's up with all the knitting?

If I did more knitting and less shopping ...

maybe I could get something done!

New purchases either arrived in the mail last week or came home in my knitting bag ...This Mountain Colors from Yarns and Threads the beautiful Barefoot - Crazy Woman. 60% Superwash Wool, 25% Mohair, 15 % nylon ... soft and strong. Washable! Perfect for socks, shawls and baby clothes. Mountain Color yarns are all hand dyed. And believe me, it's yummy!

And then there's my latest purchase at SSFY [Seed Stitch Fine Yarn]. Sock yarn by Claudia Handpainted Yarns and buttons... oh ya, Victoria is now selling a variety of buttons. Yippy! Including two boxes on clearance from which I got mine. They're for a sweater vest I finished and I don't like the buttons already on it and the others will wait for the right projects to come along ... and BTW, SSFY is now on 21 Front St. Salem, MA.
That cute little card is from a my freind, Sammie and I thought it looked so cute. Especially with all the colors of some of my favorite sock yarns below. I don't have enough sock yarn do I? So I bought 3 more Sophie's Toes as soon as Emily from What's That Gonna Be? posted them in her Etsy Shophie's Toes Store. They go quickly when she posts them, but there are about 6 left if you want some. The colors below are [and BTW I love the names she gives her colors] Hunky Lifeguard, Id Like Mine with Extra Hot Sauce, and Seashells.
Whoohoo, I love these colors!

And looky here at the cute little gift I got from my friend, Dottie! She knit the little bag for the little gift that went inside ... that cute little silver sock stitch marker. Guess she knows I'm a sock knitter, huh? Thanks, Dottie!!

Oh yes, I've been knitting. Started the Math Whiz Friday morning about 8:30 am. Took a few pictures when I got the first 28 row pattern repeat completed. But got 3 of those repeats done before I went to bed.

As you see, I had to keep track of this one line by line. It's an easy & fun knit, but you don't want to loose track of which row your working. I also knitted a little over the weekend and I'm now on the foot. So maybe I can complete the first sock tonight and start the 2nd sock tomorrow morning. That's the plan anyways. So here's a few pictures before I sign off for the day ...Oh ya, I did work a little on this also ...

So when does the shopping stop?
Let's hope NEVER!!

A day for graduates ... and shopping.

Last Friday was commencement at M.I.T.
Congratulations Class of 2007!

I always love to see the graduates march to receive their diplomas. I took pictures this time. [not every year do I do this but this year I got a good spot with a view to take some.]

And guess what! I met a fellow Blogger. One that came from California for her own M.I.T. class reunion. We've been commenting on each other's blog for awhile now ... so it was real nice to meet her. Met Kim from Knits with a Silent K ...

Okay, she's a bit shy. But not me. Haha, she hasn't outed herself as a blogger yet, so I let her use my STR Grasshopper sock. We didn't have much time to visited since she & her DH were on their way to meet family for dinner, but we chatted the few minutes we did like ... well like, Mag Pies. And since my DH was there also the guys seem to gab up a storm themselves and both took pictures for us. Now is that a surprise or what? If she ever comes out again, I hope we can get together for lunch or tea or a Knit Feast. You too Mafia! Just let us know when you come out again, Kim.

And Kim gave me a couple of her Moo cards too. What's a Moo card? Like a business card on the other side it has her Blog Spot web site, email, and flicker address.

Just hand them out to people who want to know how to find you. Cool!

Take a look ... I want me some Moo cards too!!

Once again, I've had a busy day and only have time to post another cool purchase. I love sheep ... I love green ... I love jewelry.

So why not earrings of sheep with green faces?

A lot to do today and everyday ...

The DH and I spent Saturday evening helping our LYS to move from 10 Front Street to 21 Front Street ... right in view by a block. Boy it was hard work and lot's of lifting and carrying and packing. Now I know why people say they get high on yarn fumes. I felt so much wonderful yarn as I packed them in boxes, I was itching to buy some then and there. Boy, it's just as well I wasn't going to be the one UNPACKING!

And here is one project started Sunday and finished this Monday morning ...

Maybe I can accomplish one pair a week?

My other goals are to finish this heap ....

And start the Math Whiz socks with Grandma's Blueberry Pie ...

So I'm keeping this post short and getting back to work ... I only wish the work involved knitting!

But let's start the week off with a laugh okay? ...

My DH might consider this someday if I keep dragging him to
Seed Stitch Fine Yarn!

Oh what to do, what to do ...

So much knitting is trying to jump out of my basket, onto my needles and into my lap to be started if not finished. So much color, so much beauty, it's filling my flower boxes. I want to be knitting [so what's new, huh?] ... but life gets in the way at times. And more often than I like. Yesterday, I had Jury Duty. It's the third time in 7 years. Well last year it was cancel so my name got thrown back into the pool. So once again I got the call to duty. What little knitting I was working on, had to be put aside ... until after I did my civic duty. After a 45 minute drive and a very long wait, I got dismissed because of what I'll call "a conflict of interest." Yah, that's right ... I have an invested interest in the company being sued. Go figure! So I got to go home [yippy] and I then went to Community Knitting at the Seed Stitch. But I did spend a little time on contemplating what I wanted to do next, and next after that, and again after that one. So here's what I have plucked from my stash and library and what I MIGHT do with each sock yarn ....

This first one is Sophies Toes, Grandma's Blueberry Pie. Love this yarn and I can't wait to knit it up into socks. And you all know that I work at M.I.T. in the Department of Mathematics right?

Well that means the next pair of socks HAVE TO BE ...

Math Whiz from Knitspot!

I figure Grandma's Blueberry Pie is perfect for these socks!! Don't you?

Then there's this Socks that Rock from Blue Moon Fibers. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the colorway at this time but ...

I think this pattern, Undulating Rib Socks from Ann Budd's Favorite Socks ... will be perfect.

Also in this book is the pattern Austrian Socks and I think they just might work with the Brooklyn Handspun called
Strawberry Margarita. I can always change my mind on those. It's not set in stone. But I love these socks and think the weight of this yarn will go well with the pattern stitch.

And below is a Cherry Tree Hill yarn. Called Water! It's the one that Cynthia is using for her Math Whiz socks.

BTW, if you would like to join us in a little Mini-KAL, we're starting the socks next Friday. Just let Cynthia from Two Wooden Sticks and A Ball of Wool or me know. The link for the sock pattern is above at Knitspot.

I've been planning to knit a pair of socks one day soon with this Cherry tree Hill but I didn't know what pattern would be right with this colorway and just put it aside until I found somthing. Now I'm considering Elegant Ribbed Socks from Ann Budd's Favorite Socks book again. I won't be doing knee highs tho. Do you think that ankles socks are okay in this pattern? You know about 7 or 8 inches.

Wait, I've changed my mine. I think this color way would be beautiful as Tidal Wave Socks!

I tried to start these yesterday, but had to put them down before I got far. Thought I might knit the Unst sock pattern from Knitting on the Road with Sophie's Toes colorway, Forsythia. I don't do lace much, but I think I really want to do these in the Forsythia. They're so bright and cheery they need to be light and airy lace.

Jackie asked what I had for a "time frame" for getting these socks done and my answer is ... as many as I can get done during the Summer. Hopefully five pair, counting the Grasshopper socks from Blue Moon, STR Sock Club. I'm on my 2nd sock for that pair. So that's the story. Not saying it'll happen ... but it's my game plan and I'll give it an honest try.

And I can't help myself ... I have got to show you Grandma's blueberry pie one more time.
[What do you think, Cynthia? Will this color work?]

Well ... back to watching my garden grow ...
