Double the Knitting, Double the Fun?

Double Knit, Double Knit ...

PDRM5266_edited

Double Knit fun?? Not so sure about that ...

Otherwise known as Reversible Knitting double knitting can be mind boggling.

PDRM5264_edited

After taking a class in this technique of knitting and struggling to wrap my brain around it, went home and did another practice piece and then just jumped right in and made ...

Sometimes I forget ...

to Post an FO. What? How could I, huh?

PDRM5229_edited

But I have an excuse.

Project info
: Ruffled Fingerless Glove
Vogue Spring/Summer 2009
Needle and yarn
US 3 / 3.25 mm
: Aslan Trends Glaciar Del Cielo
2 skeins = 274.0 yards (250.5m)
: 2853 Grey
I'm knitting on so many WIP's that once I finished my cotton fingerless gloves , well it was discovered I had finished a pair of socks as well.

How'd that happen?

Well it's easy to do with socks since we all just do so many of them, huh? This one is just a Basic Ribbed Sock. But wait. I love my basic socks. You don't knit socks you say? Well I'll teach ya if you're interested in a class at Seed Stitch Fine Yarn in Salem, MA. Ask them for the next class scheduled when you're in there. And if you don't live near by ... check out your LYS. Once you start knitting socks ... you just won't be able to stop. But you'll have the most comfy feet in town.

Another Basic Sock

This one is knit with Brooklyn Handspun, Instant Gratification in Forest. Great for the boots on a cold Winter snowy day of shoveling or waiting for the train at the station going into work.

Hey, I love my socks!!

Another Basic Sock

So they're going in the sock drawer for next year.

Nothing funny about that!

Oops ... another FO off the needles!

Gilded Lilly from Mac & Me, pattern #104

Gilded Lilly #104

Needle: US 6 / 4.0 mm
Yarn: Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool
DK / 8 ply (11 wpi)
How much? about 5 skeins = 960.0 yards
Colorway: 48 ... a Grey Green

I love the looks of this shawl scarf!! It has a nice drape. I absolutely love! BUT ... boy it was a long process as a matter of fact to just knit the last 4 rows and bind off. Took a whole afternoon just for the bind off. Of course, I got interrupted a few time or put it down now and then for a break ...

But I thought it might take "forever"!

Just a Little Something ...

I made for my best friend, Sammie's birthday.

Little Pin Cushion & Sheep Pin Topper

It's a little hand pincushion and a sheep pin topper. Just in case you didn't know. She collects pincushions so she should have one of mine right? But, I think I need to work on it a little more before I package it up and mail it out before the 18th. I think I need to look at it awhile and fiddle with it before I have it just the way I want it. Because once it's in the box ... it's gone.

And then ... I just might make one for me!

Spring has Sprung!

PDRM5163_edited

And I am soooooo ready for it!

Bill's first day out, almost FreedomDH is finally off to the Adult Center 2 days a week. He calls it school. Here he is coming back after his first day. He said he mostly watched TV ... but, today I find out that wasn't really true ... but he's seems to be enjoying it because he was up early and getting dressed before he really needed too. "Want to be ready on time," he said. I love the great attitude ... hope it continues. He's really doing great! Leaps & Bounds ...

And of course I'm getting some more knitting done.

This is my "Reading Buddy" to be send to Uganda and to give to students at Ford School in Lynn. It's a quick projects using just left over balls of yarn.

Reading Buddy

And there are projects in the works or being planned...
Dymphna V-neck Pullover
Working on my Basic Sock for beginner's class
Galazy Socks
Mac & Me Kid Silk Ruffled Scarf

Reading is always happening at a slower pace these days coz I read when I go to bed. So you might guess how many pages I might get thru before falling asleep ...

Knitting the Threads of Time

Occasionally I finish one ...

Holding out on you, have I?

There's a contest at Seed Stitch Fine Yarn. I wasn't going to enter ... but couldn't help myself. I whipped up a bunny ... Bella the Knitting Bunny was born!

Bella Bunny

I wanted to link to Seed Stitch for an explanation of the contest but couldn't find it there. But what it amounts to is that you bring in a Bunny that you made by March 31st and there will be voting taking place by the public as to their favorites. One group will be from customers to the store and the other will be staff. I'm in the staff group since I teach crochet and beginner sock knitting. So there's still time to enter yours if you live near by to drop it by on March 31st. There's a prize for each group winner!

Bella Bunny

Bella said she would love to win ...
but I don't know if her face is 'cute' enough to get the votes.

But I could be wrong.

"Just because I love you ... "

DH wondered while he watched me knit these socks and finally asked, "Who are you making those socks for?"

for Christmas?

For you, Dear.

"For next Christmas?" Nope.

"For my birthday?" Nope.

Garter Rib Socks

"They fit so nice." "Are they for next Valentine's Day?"

Nope.

Garter Rib socks

I knit them for you just because ... I love You!

What's this? Another WIP?

PDRM5102_edited

Nope ...

It's another FO !!!

PDRM5106_edited

Opps, I think I have the braid cable on the wrong side ...

PDRM5112_edited

: Sideways Grande Cloche by Laura Irwin for my Einstein Coat.
: Rowan RYC Soft Tweed (2 skeins)
: Oatmeal

Now ... what else might I have on the needles to finish?
Or should I "cast on" again? My fingers are itching to cast on.

Did someone tell me that knitting is an "obsession"??

WIPs? What's a WIP?

WIP in the "Knitting Dictionary" means: Work In Progress. So WIPs must mean "more than one" or "many" works in progress. Right?

This Winter has really been a good time for yarn to be jumping onto the needles too don't you think? An early March snow storm is my clue to stay in my pj's and knit. DH agrees. It means he gets to relax and watch TV while I sit with him and work my magic with needles and yarn.

PDRM5068_edited

Now I confess I have many ... or rather many works on the needles, not necessarily being worked on. So here's a pictorially record of what I'm actually working on right now while other projects remain hidden and marinating and waiting for me to return.

And what could be better than knitting with a fireplace going in the background?

PDRM5059_edited

Every morning I work on ... the first pair of socks for my DH.

PDRM5098_edited

Yup, that's right. DH has virgin hand-knitted sock feet! I'm about to change that with yarn from "A Swell Yarn Shop" sent to me in the Lucky Lurkers Club.

PDRM5100_edited

And then the other WIPs ...

PDRM5040_edited

PDRM5051_edited

And this just might jump on some needles today ...

PDRM5046_edited

But I've got my eye on something in this book also...

PDRM5056_edited

Could I be "Biting off more than I can chew?"

Or casting on more than I can knit?

Time will tell.

Wait .... wait ... wait! One of those just became a Finished Object ... an FO.

And before it gets too warm to wear, I FINISHED my Eistein Coat. Yah ... the one I started in November of 2007.

Einstein Coat

Would you say it's about time that I finished it?

PDRM5031_edited

It sure is warm!

Now ... what else can I pull out of my bag of unfinished projects? Got to be at least a dozen more to finish.

Well ... I better get knitting!

Progress happening in all areas ...

Not only is my DH doing better and more each day, I'm also getting some knitting done. Yes, I seem to be a fast knitter AND I knit in between a lot of other stuff that's going on whenever I can. It's because I can ... and it helps to relax me too.

I taught a "Beginner's Sock Knitting" class for the last 3 Saturdays and completed a Basic Rib Sock along with the class ... pattern is similar to:

PDRM5003_edited

I used size 3 dpns because the sock yarn I used was Brookline Handspun "Instant Gratification", which is a DK weight sock yarn. Looks like "Springtime" socks don't they? Well the colorway is "Springz" so you're not wrong about that. I do believe I'll wear them for Easter.

I've also decided that from now on I'm reinforcing my heels. I can never seem to remember to knit it in as I go ... so I'm weaving in the nylon sock reinforcement "after the fact". Ah well, next time I'll try to remember to knit it in. Save myself that extra step.

PDRM5011_edited

And then I also finally decided what to make with the Lobster Pot Cashmere gift that the ladies at Seed Stitch Fine Yarn gave me as a "cheering up" and "healing" gift this past Summer. I pet the yarn for a long time but now I can wear it around my neck. Here's my Cashmere Neckwarmer ...
